Keith McLaughlin from our personal injury department headed down to the London Hilton on Park Lane on the 31st October 2008 for the aptly named Fright Night 3 an evening of white collar boxing in aide of charity. The event was in its third year and was the second time a member from Cobleys has taken part. The first being Eric Williams, Partner in 2006. The event raised money for the Willow Foundation and Gloves in the community. Keith decided to take part in May 2008 when the application forms where sent to various Legal firms and Barristers Chambers, and in Keith’s own words on the night of the event, "when I submitted my application in May tonight seemed such a long way away!". From May to October Keith trained at a local Gym in Liverpool. From the start of his training although fairly fit from being a regular runner found the training hard, but as time went on his fitness for boxing increased and he started to enjoy the training, next step was starting to spar, this at first was a very weird feeling for Keith as it took some getting used to being hit and at the same time trying to hit his opponent. Again as time went by the strange feeling passed and training pressed on in earnest, apart from the odd hiccup with sore ribs, Keith’s training went well.
Cobleys had reserved two tables at the event to entertain clients and raise the all important money for the nominated charities. Keith had in all 20 supporters from the office and valued clients. The fight went well, Keith’s nerves held and in the end he really enjoyed the experience. Apart from some sore ribs he came out unscathed. Asked if he would do it again, the reply was a short and sweet "NO, done it once. Got the photo and trophy, now on to something else". |
